To help with your planning Joyfulsounds DJ has provided below some commonly asked questions.

Q Should I start the meal on my guests arrival before we get there?

A Generally speaking, this is not a good idea - because several things usually happen in the scenario:

1. A lot of people are in a huge line when you arrive - which diminishes your entrance and creates chaos.

2. Everyone is done or almost done the time you arrive - which often means that you don't get to eat - or else you eat with the feeling that everyone is looking at you.

If you're worried about your guests having to wait to eat and being hungry, a better solution is to either have some light food for them to eat (hors d'oeuvres) or drink (soda, punch, etc.) Or to plan with your photographer to have the pictures taken quickly (ex Don't go to a park, etc. This usually takes an hour or two!)

Q How many songs should we pick?
A There is approximately time enough for 16-17 songs per hour.

Q Should we pick out EVERY song to be played?
A You can if you'd like, but most clients pick some requests and indicate to us which are their favorites. This also allows us to be open to accepting guest requests and to "read the crowd" and have more flexibility to build a dance atmosphere.

Q What is the best setup scenario for the DJ?
A Ideally, we use two (6 or 8 foot) tables - when space permits. But, the MOST IMPORTANT thing is WHERE WE SET UP! The best place is either right next to or even on the dance floor - with no guest tables set up directly in front of the speakers and in a place where we can see the head table.

Q What kind of electric outlets do you need?
A Just a standard wall outlet is all we need. Preferably close to our setup (although we bring a 50 foot extension cord, most banquet facilities are set up for this.)

Q What time does the DJ arrive?
A We arrive 1- 1.5 hours before your FIRST GUEST is expected so that as they walk in we are setup, dressed properly and have background music playing. This creates a nice atmosphere for your guests.

Q Is it O.K. and/or expected to tip my DJ?
A Just like any other service, if you receive good service, a tip is appropriate. It depends on your level of satisfaction.
